What size Tent fits a Queen Mattress? (Ultimate Guide of all Tent Sizes)

what size tent fits a queen mattress

Last year I also had the same question, what size tent fits a queen mattress? For camping to be truly enjoyable, we all need a comfortable place to sleep. Therefore, I decided to take along my queen mattress and wondered, will it fit in my 3-person tent? I searched it briefly and am sharing my findings so you can use them.

To fit a queen-sized mattress comfortably in a tent, at least a 4-person tent will be required. Furthermore, I have included the dimensions for all the tent options you can inquire about.

Queen-size air mattress dimensions

Typically, queen mattresses measure 80″ by 60″. Because their size is larger than single air mattresses, these are the most comfortable and most commonly used air mattresses for camping.

What size tent fits a queen mattress? (Explained with dimensions)

The queen-size air mattress won’t fit in a two or three-person tent. A 4 or 6-person tent will accommodate it with room to spare on the sides. For comfort, a family tent is best.

A two-person tent measures 90” x 50”. Despite trying to squeeze it in, the mattress would stretch the tent out of shape, causing the ceiling to sag towards the floor, and causing the tent’s height to be much lower than it should be.

The average size of a 3-person tent is 95” x 80”, but once the mattress is inflated there isn’t room for anything else. As soon as I attempted to fit it on my lawn, I found that it messed up everything. It was like going into the tent and only the mattress was there.

Will a queen mattress fit in a 4-person tent?

Four-person tents are approximately 100″ x 85″.You will have space on either side for the kit. However, you will have limited space to walk because the mattress will occupy the center of the tent if you place it lengthways from the door. It may lower your ceiling as it pushes the walls. But not as much that you have to worry about.

The case is almost the same as a 3-person tent, open the door and fall onto the mattress. The entire tent is your bed. Well, this can be pretty cool. But the difference is that it has slightly more space than a 3-person tent.

Will a 6-person tent fit a queen air mattress?

The average size of a 6-person tent is 120″ x 120″. Putting the mattress lengthwise on one side of the tent will allow you to walk, change, and sit. There is even room for a chair in this free space.

If the tent has a vestibule, you will have more space to do your chores. These are all average sizes, but every company’s measurements differ slightly, so you should refer to their product descriptions. It may also indicate if it is compatible with a queen-size air mattress.

How do you pick the right size tent?

Which is more important to you, just fitting a queen mattress inside the tent or having some more space? Choose the tent wisely based on your requirements.

1. Design

The tent you’re considering should have a large enough door for you to get the mattress in and out. Even deflated, a queen-size mattress can be quite large and you should avoid having difficulty bringing it inside the tent.

2. What about the floor of the Tent?

Does your tent have a floor? Anywhere you go camping, you’ll find stones, sticks, and more on the ground. They can damage your mattress, but a floor can provide an extra layer of protection.

3. Height

In order to get comfortable, you will need to know the height of the tent’s interior. To assist small children in getting dressed or ready for the day or night, you may need to be able to stand up. If you have a 2′ height mattress it could get tight. Therefore, make sure to confirm the measurements before you buy, and try it out before you embark on a trip to the forest.

Do you need an air mattress for camping?

No, air mattresses are not necessary for camping, but they might help you get a good night’s sleep. Depending on your needs, you can also choose from sleeping cots, sleeping bags, or even hammocks as alternatives to air mattresses.
